8/1/08 Weekend Movie Openings
Another big time movie is coming out this weekend. With The Mummy and The Mummy Returns previous success, this week should be another big one. Swing Vote, well I like Kevin Costner and I know he is trying to make a comeback, but this movie just looks meh. It might make a bit of cash but I’m not holding my breath. Who knows though, the election season is coming up and people are weird in presidential election years.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Trailer:
Different director, different Evelyn O’Connell, same mummy action. Abdominal snowmen? Seriously, abominable snowmen? OK. That kicks ass. I’ve never thought of Brendan Fraser as a great actor, but he always does a “solid” job. He is like the John Cusack of funny people. Never great, but never bad. I’m looking forward to seeing this, but I still have a few other movies I want to see in theater before I make it to another mummy film. I think I’ll wait until DVD.

Swing Vote
Trailer:
Well, at least the timing is right for this movie. Hey, it might even become a cult classic. What kind of cult? Maybe election nerds? OK, maybe just a creepy Kevin Costner cult where everyone has a different variation of the Van dyke.

Are you interested in seeing either of these movies?

Will definitely be catching up on it when it releases next weekend. Loved the first 2 parts and with the addition of Jet Li things should be even more exciting. Would have loved it if Rachel Weisz had come back too…

I’ll definitely see The Mummy since I liked the last two sequels. With Jet Li in it, should be great. As for Swing Vote, I think I’ll watch this on DVD instead. Not a priority for me.

I think I’ll wait for both to come out on DVD, and even then I may skip them. Neither movie has managed to grab my attention, although the abominable snowmen might be sort of fun.
