8/22/08 Weekend Movie Openings
This week Emma Stone stars in two movies, The House Bunny and The Rocker. Other films coming out are Death Race, an action thriller, Hamlet 2, a comedy, and The Longshots, a true story, and The Rocker, a comedy.
Death Race (Action thriller)
Trailer
Paul W.S. Anderson directed this movie set in the future where the warden of a notorious prison gives prisoners a choice to race and be free or die trying. Honestly, this movie just looks like another hollywood film made only for money and not entertainment. Lame.
The House Bunny (Comedy)
Trailer
A Fred Wolf film about Shelley (Anna Faris, Scary Movie), a Playboy bunny, who finds herself without a job due to her age. She leaves the mansion and becomes a house mother for the sorority Zeta Alpha Zeta. Shelley hopes to change the seven clueless women into man-magnets. This movie looks like it will be a good chick-flick type film, but who knows? Maybe males will turn out to check out Anna Faris and Emma Stone making it a huge success in all gender groups.
The Longshots (Family comedy)
Trailer
Fred Durst (LimpBizkit) directed a true story film about Curtis Plummer (Ice Cube, Friday) coaching the first female to play in the Pop Warner football tournament. Whoever hired Fred Durst to direct this film was a complete moron. Not only that, Ice Cube is being his usual gangsta self even in serious situations. Flop.
The Rocker (Comedy)
Trailer
A Peter Cattaneo film about a rocker who seeks a second chance at fame. The movie stars Rainn Wilson (The Office), Christina Applegate (Married with Children), and Emma Stone (Superbad). This movie looks to be the best of the weekend, which is why it is coming out Wednesday in limited theaters.

Hamlet 2 (Comedy)
Trailer
Andrew Fleming directed this film about an actor turned drama teacher who sets out to direct a musical sequel to William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This film was hailed at the Sundance Film Festival in January. After it was bought for $10 million (almost breaking the record at the film festival), re-editing was done and it is ready to take off. It will be in limited release this weekend and will go wide in the next week or two. The amount of theaters depends on the reception from audiences.
