The Hangover
A man is getting married, but his groomsmen lose him during their night of drunken misadventures. They try to discover his whereabouts by retracing their steps from the past night.

This film sounds a lot like “Dude Where’s My Car”.

- The Hangover quotes

Land of the Lost
Will Ferrell stars in this comedy about a man who is stuck in a space-time vortex alongside his assistant and a survivalist.

This film sounds funny but looks stupid. Who knows which way it will go.

- Land of the Lost quotes

My Life in Ruins
A woman who is in a crossroads in life sets out to become a tour guide in Greece. As she tries to rediscover her life, she finds herself in many embarrassing and wonderful situations.

This film stars the actress from My Big Fat Greek Wedding and is already being seen as a success internationally, especially Greece.

Drag Me to Hell
A movie about a woman who is looking to move up at her workplace and is forced to decline a loan extension to an elderly woman. The woman, of course, curses her.

This film has received great reviews but will most likely debut poorly due to the many great films already in theaters.

Up
Pixar’s first animated 3d film. A 78-year-old man sets out to see the world by tying thousands of balloons to his home. A 8-year-old is mistakenly taken along with him and is inadvertently taken along with him for the trip.

You can tell summer has begun because of the several weeks of blockbusters. This week, two potential films are coming out which are looking to reach the top of the charts. Although, Terminator Salvation has a large advantage. The only question is, how much will the recent Terminator film make?

Battle of the Smithsonian
Larry Daley goes to the Smithsonian to rescue Jedediah and Octavius who were shipped there by mistake. The idea sounds pretty stupid, but the clips look hilarious. Robin Williams returns as a different, bodyless and horseless Teddy Roosevelt along with Owen Wilson as Jedediah. A great cast with hopefully a funny script.

- Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Terminator Salvation
John Connor attempts to save the last survivors of a nuclear holocaust. After all the time travel, nothing changed. Skynet is as evil as ever and terminators are still alive and seem to be more powerful than ever.

If it wasn’t for Christian Bale, I would see this film as soon as it came to town. Sadly, he is. And no, it isn’t the fact he yelled at the art director, but it is the fact that I think he sucks as an actor.

Last weekend, Star Trek rode the trekkie train all the way to the bank. This week, though, they will have to face up against another soon-to-be blockbuster hit in Angels & Demons.

Angels & Demons
This film follows Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) as he attempts to save the Church from a terrorist attack by the Illuminati, a group of rich men across Earth who rule virtually everything.

What’s funny about this film, is that the Catholic Church banned filming from the Vatican, yet the director sent in enough “tourists” to take pictures and small videos to make it work. Also what I don’t understand, is why this film is banned in the first place. Sure, it does say many controversial things about the Church (well, the book does anyway), yet the main character is protecting the Catholic Church and not going against it.

Sorry, that just seems a bit weird.

This past weekend, Wolverine ruled the day. With over $80mil it is bound to see a strong second weekend. How strong, though? Well, we are about to find out. Nonetheless, there is one film which has been receiving tons of nerd attention: Star Trek.

Although this film is likely to have some limited appeal, nerds always come out in great numbers for their beloved stories. I’m sure this one will be no different, especially since it is based off the original. Both old and young nerds should be fleeing to the theater, but, we shall see.

Star Trek
I basically gave away what this film is about, but let’s talk a little more. This new film is about the young fleet, several years before the beginning of the TV show. It shows how Kirk and company became who they are, their first battle, and their first travel through space together. It all sounds great, right? I think so. I desperately want to watch this film, but probably won’t be able to for at least a couple weeks.
- Star Trek quotes

So what do you think? Will the new Star Trek be up to snuff?

This week three movies are opening wide, although just two in major distribution. There is one film which is likely to open huge, Wolverine, and the other is likely to be a hit amongst young females, Ghosts of Girlfriends Pasts.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
This film was leaked a while back, but I don’t do that sort of thing. So I’ll just have to wait to see it. Yes, Gambit is in the film (who is by far my favorite X-Men character). This film goes through how Wolverine gained his powers and how he met each X-Men and his struggles.

- X-Men Origins: Wolverine quotes

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
A playboy, Mathew McConaughey, is visited by his dead uncle who tells him he will soon be visited by the three ghosts of girlfriends: Ghost of Girlfriends Past, Ghost of Girlfriends Present, and Ghost of Girlfriends Future.

This film looks like another chick-flick for McConaughey, and more specifically, a Scrooge chick-flick.

- Ghosts of Girlfriends Past quotes

Battle for Terra
In the distant future, humans must work their way into finding a new home since they are running out of food and oxygen. Although this film has been criticized for being “liberal”, it isn’t. At the most this film is about the morals of humans and where we are headed as the human race.

Last weekend, 17 Again made a nice splash. For whatever reason, girls just love Zac Efron. Oh well, there isn’t anything I can do about it. Teenybopper films have been doing well this past year, so I imagine it will continue. This weeks movies aren’t much more promising, but still the best weekend openings for a while.

Earth (2009)

A Disney nature film set to celebrate Earth Day. This video looks through many different animals and aspects of nature. I’m not sure if I would go to the theatre to watch this, but it looks decent.

Fighting

A counterfeiter meets a scam artist who introduces him to underground fighting and becomes his manager. Of course, I don’t know if you can expect much from a film which can’t think of a better name than ‘fighting’. “Hmm… what shall we call this film? I know! There is fighting in it. Let’s just call it “Fighting!” Then his buddies say, “Genius!”

Fighting quotes

Obsessed

While leading a happy life, a temp worker begins to follow him and soon everything he has worked for is in jeopardy. When the stalker is Beyonce Knowles, you just know something great is going to happen. Or not. Who knows?

Obsessed quotes

The Soloist

The first trailer of this film looked almost exactly like Jamie Foxx’s Ray in 2004. However, the trailer since then makes the film look much more compelling. Jamie Foxx plays a mentally insane man who was one of the most talented musicians until his mental problems began. A journalist, played by Robert Downey Jr. attempts to help him.

This past weekend Hannah Montana: The Movie broke the Easter weekend record with taking in $34 million. Ah, humanity. Where have we come to? Hannah Montana…. seriously? I understand your children want to see this film, but they can’t go see it unless you drive them. Meh… I guess you have been buying them the Hannah Montana shoes, backpacks, and clothing items for several years now, so why not, right?

Anyway, there are three movies opening in wide release this week. Surprisingly, all seem better than Hannah Montana.

17 Again
Mike O’Donnell’s life is falling apart, so he wishes he could go back to being 17 again. So of course, a man does it for him. This film seems like it can go either way (in terms of sickness or happiness). Does Mike fall for a high school girl? (he is still 37 even though he looks 17). Does his daughter fall for him? (ew). Or does he just try to look all cool and that is that?

17 Again quotes

State of Play
A Congressman’s mistress is killed and is being investigated not only by the police, but by a reporter as well. This reporter, played by Russell Crowe, is also the Congressman’s friend. The two work together to find who killed the mistress, but things may not turn out how you might expect.

State of Play quotes

Crank: High Voltage
Chev is kidnapped and has his heart stolen only to have it replaced with an electric heart which is running out of power. So Chev, played by Jason Statham, turns up the voltage and starts kicking some major butt in typical Statham style.

(no quotes because trailers are in bad quality, plus, they are mostly just him kicking butt anyway)

All in all, I wouldn’t mind watching State of Play or the new Crank film…. on DVD. Again, this crap isn’t worthing $9.

Yep, this article is a little late, but oh well, right? There’s three movies new out this weekend with two that will bring in the crowds. Last weekend, Fast and Furious was able to come out on top and hopes to hold off at least one of the other films.

Hannah Montana: The Movie
Alright, I admit that I’ve never seen this film. But really, a man my age shouldn’t either, especially since I don’t have any children. Anyway, it is about this girl, Miley Cyrus…errr… Stewart, who is a spoiled brat. So she heads back home to Tennessee (although from the trailers, it doesn’t really seem like Tennessee), and she ends up falling in love with it.

This seems like a goodbye film to the character. Let’s hope, anyway.

Hannah Montana: The Movie quotes

Observe and Report
Another mall cop movie, really? Didn’t people have enough of mall cops in the ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’ film? Argh! Anyway, this film is about a mall cop which tries to ‘protect’ a woman after she is flashed by a streaker. He basically tells her that he is going to come back and kill her. So she gets drunk, vomits on herself, and he tries to make love to her. Does it happen? Well, that is what you have to find out!

Observe and Report

Dragon Ball Evolution
This film has been in planning since 2002, but it doesn’t seem like it. If you’ve had the pleasure (or displeasure) of watching the series, this film takes place in between regular Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, around Goku’s 18th birthday. What I really wonder about this film, is if it will just be an hour and a half of Goku doing his meteor strike. Hmmm…. Not going to pay $9 to find out though.

So what do I want to watch? None! Sorry films.

I finally got around to watching Lakeview Terrace (alright, so the DVD came in the mail from BlockBuster). I have to say, the film leaves a few holes and wasn’t quite what I expected. Nonetheless, it stars Samuel L. Jackson. Samuel L. Jackson! So it can’t be all bad, right? Right!

In all honesty, this film would have been better served if the trailers didn’t completely suck balls.

Story Line:
Lakeview Terrace takes place in a neighborhood in Los Angeles. It is about an interracially married couple who just move into a starter home next door to an LAPD officer, Abel, who has a slight problem with interracial marriages. Actually, the movie goes much deeper. The film goes much deeper into Abel’s life by showing him correcting his daughters language and his treatment of other African Americans. However his treatment towards the couple receives the bulk of attention.

Review:
The film’s plot is amazing. Attitudes towards interracial marriage and race in general is almost never touched upon in public. Lakeview Terrace attempts to bring up taboo subjects and have the audience talking days later about the possible problems with America’s real society instead of just Hollywood’s wonderland. In that I believe the film was successful.

However, where the film falters is in the plot holes and inaccuracies left behind.

Spoiler:
Why does Abel answer his cellphone towards the end of the film? Does he not recognize the number? Does he not have the number placed in his directory? Not only that, why does Chris even bother calling the number? At the very most he should have turned the phone over to the police and have them deal with it. Even if you can argue he should do something, doesn’t the phone have Abel in the directory? How could both of them simultaneously not realize who the other person is on the phone? It just doesn’t make sense! Even after all of this, Abel says something about the criminal calling him. Sure Abel, the only problem is you called him last to tell him to get out of the house.

I don’t necessarily have a problem with the very end of the film. It is a classic tragedy made with modern characters.

Stars:
Overall I must say the film is overrated. It has some hints of decency, but the (see spoilers) really, really bother me. The film could be much better. Two stars.
